Weekend Wine School? Yes, please!

As all the people in my life know, I’m a wino. I’m a big, big fan of the grape kind, and I have to attribute that to my brief, but oh-so-shaping stint at The Wine Rack during my university days. Earlier this year I had taken a break from drinking it daily, but found myself drawn back as the summer rolled around. Who can say no to summer days filled with good food, wine and good conversation? I’m a complete and utter sucker for that.

So you can imagine my delight when my friend Jamie informed me of this great event going on, the #iyellowtour organized by The iYellow Wine Club. Founded by Ange Aiello, the iYellow Wine Club offers free membership and boasts a membership of over 10,000 people now. Not to mention it has been dubbed by Toronto Life as “The coolest place in TO to learn about wine“, I can’t wait to add to my knowledge of my favourite libation. As a wine lover, but a private one, I’m really interested in seeing what a wine club has to offer me, so when I had the opportunity to join a tour, I had to jump at it.

So, this August 18th, I will be attending a tour of some of Niagara’s best vineyards, including Vineland Estates Winery, Southbrook Vineyards and Chateau du Charmes (a personal favourite). I’m really looking forward to learning more about my local wineries and about some of the new bio-dynamic practices being applied to the wine process. This is very interesting to me as I wonder how it will impact the taste and body of the wine; I’ve always been a fan of the ancient tradition of wine fermentation and creation, so how do these new practices fit in with all of that, I wonder?

What perfect timing as well, as my birthday is the Monday after, there is nothing I would rather be doing that day than spending it out in the beautiful vineyards of Niagara and drinking my way through my favourite Ontario wines. AND I have a hot date, my wonderful sister, Ms. Bhavna herself. Complete elation, I couldn’t ask for a better way to celebrate my birthday than this. Now, all I need is Ryan Gosling or Robert Downey Jr. to call me up and tell me that they both can’t live without me. #DreamOn
